Now, the Legend of Zelda series is, for many people, an incredibly memorable series. From the music, to the enemies, to the boss fights, just about every game has something that people can point to and say “Man, that was pretty awesome.” The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is no exception to this rule. While some dismissed it for its cell-shaded look, others embraced the look of the game and found it to be a nice change for the series. I personally felt the same way, and I consider the game to be one of the best in the series. A Link to the Past is fantastic, and Ocarina of Time is definitely the most popular, but Wind Waker had a few key scenes where it just blew my mind: the first visit to Hyrule Castle was one of them.
The most memorable moments in gaming #5: Metal Gear Nostalgia
May 19, 2009By Grey Fox
Considering my username is “Grey Fox” and I did a write up on the Metal Gear (Solid) series a few months back, I guess it is fitting that I continue discussing my favorite gaming series by adding an entry into the ever-growing series of “the most memorable moments in gaming.” Personally, there are numerous moments in the Metal Gear (Solid) series that strike me as memorable, but I will focus on one that truly stands out. It was in Metal Gear Solid 4 so…uh…spoilers? However, this moment really only affects the big, long-time fans of the series, so chances are you’ve already played it!
The most memorable moments in gaming #4: A night at the opera
May 15, 2009Final Fantasy VI (Or III, as it was released in the US) is a pretty remarkable game, and considered by many to be one of the best in the series. The game had a fantastic cast of characters, and one of them, Celes, certainly has one of the most memorable scenes in the entire game. Entering the Opera House for the first time, players are unsure what to expect. It’s certainly a nice change of pace after fighting a boss and going through quite a few dangerous areas. But what exactly was going to happen here? Only one of the most beautiful things players have seen in any game.
The most memorable moments in gaming #3: A difficult farewell
April 10, 2009Yes, another one of these already! I felt to make up to the lack of quality posts, and the lack of posts at all yesterday, I need to do two of these in one day. Plus, I really enjoy writing these. So, let’s jump back to a more recent game once again, one that is near and dear to many gamers’ hearts. For the complex puzzles, for the innovative game design, for being incredibly funny, and for having one of the greatest credit songs in gaming history: Portal is probably one of the best games of 2007, and it introduced one of gaming’s best sidekicks. Let’s get into it!
The most memorable moments in gaming #2: No, this is NOT an extreme sport…yet
April 10, 2009Continuing the series and going a bit old school since my first post, we’re going to be talking about what I consider to be the most extreme thing done in any video game. Or XTREME, if you prefer. Going from the emotionally powerful category to the just plain awesome category, let’s talk about a game that I consider to be the best in its respective series, and it was recently played and completed by Backloggery’s own Try4ce. Let’s take a look at Contra III: The Alien Wars!
The most memorable moments in gaming #1: “A man chooses, a slave obeys”
March 30, 2009Here’s yet another new series of posts, one I’ve been planning on doing for quite some time now. Inspired by Destructoid’s Memory Card feature, the “Most memorable moments in gaming” are some of the best gaming moments I can remember, and ones that span from my earliest memories all the way to more recent games. I decided for my first, I would focus on a game very near and dear to my heart, BioShock. So, fair warning, there will be spoilers.
