A Look Back #11: Final Fantasy III (VI)
May 4, 2009Nice weather makes me nostalgic/Other random things
March 31, 2009Kind of a random way I wanted to end this month’s posts by pointing out that with the nice weather, comes lots of nostalgia. I never realized this until my friend pointed it out to me a while ago, but during the summer, I get this nostalgic feeling, and I want to go back and play old games. It didn’t really hit me until last summer, and today, here is Rochester, is was a surprisingly nice day. And something about it just made me…happy, and as I said, nostalgic.
Ever get that feeling of nostalgia during these times? It also makes me want to go back and watch old movies and TV shows I really like. I usually have a lot (I repeat, a LOT) of free time on my hands during the summer months, so I tend to catch up on a lot of things (games, movies, TVĀ shows, etc) that I was too busy to enjoy earlier. That time is almost here! And with that, I should get back to playing some older games.
That brings me to another topic. Since marathons are a cool thing around Backloggery now, I’m considering a couple of them. One is an “overlooked games marathon” in which I, and whoever else wants to participate, will pick ten random games from their collection they consider never got the attention they deserved. This, for me, won’t be too old school considering the fact that I tragically no longer have really any of my old games or consoles, but I can definitely come up with ten.
Another marathon I really want to do is an “Insomniac Games marathon.” This would consist of Disruptor, the first three Spyro the Dragon games, the four Ratchet and Clank games on the PS2, the two Ratchet and Clank Future games on the PS3, and then two Resistance titles also on the PS3. Insomniac is one of my favorite developers, and with the ann0uncement of the new R&C game, why not? I also consider doing a BioWare and/or Valve marathon eventually.
That’s about it. I guess I had nothing better to end the month of March with but a random post about random things. I’ll have something better for next time, trust me.
A Look Back #7: The History of Matt Hazard
February 23, 2009Matt Hazard was once one of the greatest game characters around, his games played by many, the villains we loved to hate, and the character himself. Matt has built himself a legacy, and that legacy was destroyed by a few bad decisions and a faded career. But now he’s back, and to celebrate his return to the gaming industry with Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard, I have put together a brief history of his amazing gaming career.
Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection: Bringing the old school to the new school
February 8, 2009Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection (which is an incredibly stupid name, so I will now be referring to it as the Ultimate Genesis Collection or UGC; Sega needs to stop attaching Sonic’s name to things) is going to be a blast from the past. Sure, they had a Genesis collection release for the PS2 a few years back, but this has more games, some of which are what I consider some of the best Genesis games of all time.
Point and click adventure games: The good, the bad, and the stupid
February 5, 2009Point and click adventure games are still around today, surprisingly enough, but aside from popular titles such as Myst, the genre has never truly been able to survive much in this industry. I’m going to talk about a few good (well, great), bad, and downright stupid point and click adventure games that I remember either playing or seeing someone else play…or both really. Let’s take a look back at a genre of games that most people didn’t care about!
