Uncharted 2 is here, and boy does it leave quite the impression. I’ll admit, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first game. But I did enjoy the story and loved all of the characters. Of course, the sequel was announced, and everyone was incredibly excited. And after E3, it won several best of show awards. But was I excited? Well…kind of. I guess based on my impressions of the first game, I just never expected anything to live up to that amount of hype. But guess what? It does.
A gaming update: Borderlands, DJ Hero, and more
October 31, 2009In an attempt to reinvigorate my interest in the blog, I’m going to briefly touch upon what games I’ve been playing most recently, and some games I finished recently as well. With a flood of new games coming in, I find it a lot more manageable this year that is has been in the past few years thanks to the game delays. That’s right, I consider the delays a good thing. Although I might not be saying the same thing in January when I’m faced with 4-5 new or upcoming games in the same month. Either way, a lot has been released, so let’s get cracking!
Top ten most anticipated games of 2009
September 17, 2009With several delays that have impacted the game industry, my list from back in June is a bit off now (plus there are a few changes I want to make anyway). So I thought I would not only improve the list, but expand it to the ten titles that I am looking forward to most for the rest of this year. Don’t expect much details about the games themselves though, I just feel like ranting about why I’m personally excited about them.
Why Muramasa is not worth $50
September 13, 2009This will be a pretty short post, but something I’ve been meaning to get off my chest since yesterday. First thing’s first, Muramasa is a good game, and is certainly worth playing. But at $50, the game is definitely way too shallow and short to get your money’s worth. And let me tell you why!
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition – Bringing us back to a simple time
July 17, 2009The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition was released this past Wednesday for the PC and Xbox Live Arcade for a very good price of $10. It’s basically a remake of the original game, updated with new control options, a new art style, and voice acting. Other than that, it’s still the very same game people remember from its original release around 19 years ago. I got into the games myself a lot more recently, but it still helped fuel my love for the kind of humor the series presents, and other point and click adventure titles like it. How does this remake hold up today?
Juarez calls ahead (and a quick note on Battlefield 1943)
July 11, 2009I went against my better judgment recently and bought Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. Keep in mind, I hated the original. The game just felt clunky, had unnecessary stealth sections, and it all just looked kind of ugly. The story was the best part, but it fell flat near the end, and overall never felt like a true western experience. To me, while flawed, a game like Gun was the best game to capture the look and feel of that time in history. Red Dead Revolver did a decent job of it as well. But with all of the positive reviews, is Bound in Blood a superior game?
Classic post: MadWorld. Just MadWorld.
June 27, 2009I wrote this up the week of MadWorld’s release, which is the over the top and ultra violent action game released back in March for the Wii. I was incredibly excited about it, and did multiple posts on this blog and on Press X to Win hyping it. I expected it to be one of the best, if not the best Wii game of the year. These impressions from back in March generally reflect my final opinions on the game, and although it’s no longer my favorite Wii game of the year (Punch-Out!! holds that title right now), it’s definitely very high up there as one of my favorite Wii titles.
Classic post: The Lord of the Rings Conquest, fun but flawed action
June 27, 2009The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is basically exactly what you would expect in a Lord of the Rings game featuring the same kind of gameplay as the Star Wars: Battlefront series. It’s a fun game, one I always go back to every once in a while, mainly for the co-op. The game as a single player experience is decent enough, but it is elevated by fun multiplayer and a great co-op experience that makes it easy for anyone to drop in and drop out. For my old post containing more details about it, read more below!
Classic post: Eat Lead – Matt Hazard’s basic, yet enjoyable shooter
June 25, 2009Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard was surprisingly released a week earlier than originally intended, and I was thankfully able to get a copy late last week. The game follows Matt Hazard, a video game character with a “history” of successful games that was quickly forgotten when he tried to take his games in a new direction. This games puts you in the shoes of Matt as he tries to redeem himself, but soon finds out the game he is in is just a plot to delete him forever. So he must fight for his digital life through a series of spoofs and game clichés that have “plagued” the industry for many years. But is it as fun as it sounds?
Let’s Tap: Future tapping borefest
June 24, 2009I had a chance to play Let’s Tap today, put a few hours into it, and I can’t say that there is too much to get excited about. I did a little preview post here, where I was pretty impressed with what I saw. And the fact that it was going to be only $30 had me very interested. Of course, then I found out it wasn’t shipping with the special box that the Japanese version came with. Okay, so now we had to make our own special tapping surface, if you will. So, I was finally able to play this future tapping game. Finally able to see just why it isn’t even worth $30.
