Ghostbusters: The Video Game is one of those rare movie based games that is actually good. Rarely do you see a game based on a film from twenty five years ago be as well received as Ghostbusters was. But just how good is it? Oh, it’s very good. Let’s say you’re a fan of the Ghostbusters films, there is no reason you won’t like this game. It’s not a game version of either of the two movies, but it acts as a third film in the original story and completely new script. It also retains the same humor we come to expect from the Ghostbusters.
Month in review #3: June 2009
June 29, 2009June was a pretty eventful month. Well, the first week of June was anyway, with the rest of the month being slow with a few great game releases but no huge news. I expect the next couple of months will be exactly the same, as I will also struggle to find things to write about within the next two months. With so few games coming out, it’s always time to revisit old games I never had a chance to finish! But also, what does that mean for the blog? I’m unsure yet, but hopefully I will find enough things to talk about to keep this blog updated daily. But for now, June is the most eventful month out of the three, so let’s look at my favorite moments from the month.
The invasion of downloadable games
June 28, 2009Downloadable games, they aren’t anything new, but they are certainly here to stay. One company in particular, Sony, seems determined to support and rely on downloadable games. They are releasing an entire portable system based around the entire concept of downloading games to store on the system, the PSP Go. There is no doubt that downloadable games will go away any time soon, even if the PSP Go fails. With a soon to be released PSP game becoming a PSN only title, and the download only release of Patapon 2, it’s clear that Sony is testing out the waters before jumping in.
Classic post: MadWorld. Just MadWorld.
June 27, 2009I wrote this up the week of MadWorld’s release, which is the over the top and ultra violent action game released back in March for the Wii. I was incredibly excited about it, and did multiple posts on this blog and on Press X to Win hyping it. I expected it to be one of the best, if not the best Wii game of the year. These impressions from back in March generally reflect my final opinions on the game, and although it’s no longer my favorite Wii game of the year (Punch-Out!! holds that title right now), it’s definitely very high up there as one of my favorite Wii titles.
Classic post: The Lord of the Rings Conquest, fun but flawed action
June 27, 2009The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is basically exactly what you would expect in a Lord of the Rings game featuring the same kind of gameplay as the Star Wars: Battlefront series. It’s a fun game, one I always go back to every once in a while, mainly for the co-op. The game as a single player experience is decent enough, but it is elevated by fun multiplayer and a great co-op experience that makes it easy for anyone to drop in and drop out. For my old post containing more details about it, read more below!
Classic post: Eat Lead – Matt Hazard’s basic, yet enjoyable shooter
June 25, 2009Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard was surprisingly released a week earlier than originally intended, and I was thankfully able to get a copy late last week. The game follows Matt Hazard, a video game character with a “history” of successful games that was quickly forgotten when he tried to take his games in a new direction. This games puts you in the shoes of Matt as he tries to redeem himself, but soon finds out the game he is in is just a plot to delete him forever. So he must fight for his digital life through a series of spoofs and game clichés that have “plagued” the industry for many years. But is it as fun as it sounds?
Let’s Tap: Future tapping borefest
June 24, 2009I had a chance to play Let’s Tap today, put a few hours into it, and I can’t say that there is too much to get excited about. I did a little preview post here, where I was pretty impressed with what I saw. And the fact that it was going to be only $30 had me very interested. Of course, then I found out it wasn’t shipping with the special box that the Japanese version came with. Okay, so now we had to make our own special tapping surface, if you will. So, I was finally able to play this future tapping game. Finally able to see just why it isn’t even worth $30.
Strangers in the Strangest Lands: Official Blogcast #1
June 23, 2009Here we go, Silversoul and I finished recording the first blogcast for the blog. Keep in mind, it’s very far from perfect, but the basic idea is still in tact. We both discuss games, and we have fun doing so. In this episode, we discuss E3 two weeks later. We give an overview of the three press conferences, and then go through a top five of our five most anticipated games shown at E3.
Stranger(s) in the Strangest Lands blogcast UPDATE
June 22, 2009Just a small, short, lazy little blog post to update the people who care (nobody) on the status of the blogcast. We’re almost ready to begin recording, and hopefully by the end of the week, the very first Stranger(s) in the Strangest Lands podcast thingy will be released for all to hear. Who will actually listen? WHO KNOWS? But the important thing is me and my co-host, Silversoul, will have a ton of fun recording it. I doubt it’ll be very interesting, since our focus will be on E3, which for a lot of people at this point is old news. I wanted to do it sooner, but hey, shit happens.
What else will we focus on? E3 will take up most of our time, but after that we’ll talk about what we’re currently playing. Also, we’ll both do a top five which will be concerning our five most anticipated games of all time, and Silversoul will inform everyone about a Japan only Wiiware game that he has been obsessing about for some time now. I might put the fortune cookie to good use once again to conjure up a random game from my collection and talk about it. Sounds like fun! Maybe you’ll learn about a game you’ve never heard of otherwise? Could be!
All and all, we’ll (hopefully) be able to record it all on Tuesday, and it should be available by Wednesday. That all depends on the site I’ll be using to host it, and if it still works seemlessly with WordPress (like it did when I tested it a month back). Let’s hope it all works out for us in the end, and we will be able to continue doing one either monthly or bi-monthly.
My top five most anticipated games of 2009
June 21, 2009There are quite a lot of games coming out this year that I want, but there are five in particular I expect to pick up on day one (or at least week one) of release. These are five games that most people should be excited for. Five games that will most likely not disappoint. Five games that could possibly change gaming as we know it forever. Okay, maybe not that last one, but they will most certainly be fun.
